The 2nd annual OSRT Student and Educator Symposium (SES) was a huge success! Educators and students from 8 states attended the SES held in Columbus at the Polaris Hilton. The meeting kicked off with a dynamic keynote address covering the value of advocacy efforts at the state and national levels, presented by Linnea Hopewell, Tiffany Roman, and OSRT Legislative Lobbyist, Paul Kudlak. They addressed the need for all Ohio technologists to support OSRT in advocacy efforts. Students were advised that one important way they can help the effort is by maintaining their OSRT membership as RTs once they graduate.
Mr. Kudlak has served as OSRT Lobbyist for many years. His years of service was honored by OSRT President Allison Stokes who awarded him Honorary OSRT Membership.
JRCERT was present on Wednesday and Thursday with a workshop led by Tricia Leggett, and CEO Leslie Winter spent time with educators getting feedback on a draft of Radiography Educational Standards. Leslie is set to retire in the fall. As this will be her last visit to OSRT in an official capacity, OSRT presented her with an official OSRT shirt and best wishes cards from Ohio educators and friends. A special award was given to Angie Arnold for her years of dedicated service to OSRT, especially as her most recent tenure as OSRT Historian.
Of course, one of the prime attractions for the SES is the Quiz Bowl Competition. Eighteen teams competed. The competition ran the full day with 28 rounds of questions. It was a double elimination competition. Sinclair Community College won first place and UC Blue Ash College placed second. Good job to all who competed. It was an exciting competition! Congratulations to the winners and to all who competed.

The SES meeting was a great way for professional learning and social interactions. It is literally, a great way to re-invigorate professionally. Topics for educators ranged from learning about Neurodivergence, addressing Muslim student needs, O.R. simulations, RTs in Electrophysiology, AI integration, and more. Student review sessions included concepts in patient care, image production, procedures, and radiation safety. Of course a primary attraction for 2nd-year students is the "Ballinger Exam." Two-hundred and thirty-five students completed the online exam. Congratulations to Rylee McLaughlin from Aultman College who earned the highest score!
