A great friend is something to be treasured--someone who makes a difference in your life. That is how OSRT member Janet Carey, R.T.,(R)(T) felt about her friend, Grace Girts, B.A.,R.T.(R)(T).
Grace passed away recently and Janet wanted to do something to honor their friendship and to pay tribute to Grace's professionalism and her lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Education was very important to Grace and she loved her profession. Janet decided the most meaningful way to recognize these qualities was to pay for the OSRT membership of a student in a Radiography program living in OSRT's Section 1 geographic region. Janet enlisted the help of the OSRT Executive Office. Then, divine intervention--a call from a student from Section 1 who was having financial problems and who wanted to attend the Annual Meeting. The student could not afford membership dues nor meeting registration fees. A phone call, a keystroke on the computer, an anonymous financial transaction--the deed was done! The student was happy, Janet was happy--and Grace would be happy too.
Grace Girts was a long-time member of OSRT as well as ASRT and she served on numerous committees. She seldom missed an annual meeting at OSRT and ASRT. Grace will be missed by many.
